The Auhof in Weitra hides an impressive detail: a late Gothic beamed ceiling of the highest historical value. Measurements have shown that the wall and belt beams date back to the 13th century. The oldest beam dates back to 1316.
Sixteen of the once twenty artistically carved beams have been preserved. Their rosettes and floral motifs tell of master craftsmanship and attention to detail. Geometric shapes, leaf ornaments and plant motifs alternate, making each view unique. The beams are arranged in a flat basket arch vault, which gives the room a special effect. The building complex was erected in the second half of the 15th century for the economic administration of the manor. Traces of a fire bear witness to turbulent times before the ceiling was carefully restored between 1975 and 1977. Today it is an impressive testimony to late Gothic architecture in the heart of Weitra. The Auhof can be visited as part of a guided tour of the town.
