The Via Verde additional route is an 8.3 km long route from Hirschenwies via Nebelstein to Maißen.
The access point to the additional route is located near the entrance to the Motorikpark in Hirschenwies. The Motorikpark is open to the public and was developed and built by the municipality of Moorbad Harbach in cooperation with the renowned sports scientist Dr. Roland Werthner. In the immediate vicinity of the Motorikpark are the Pension Kristall and the Pension Nordwald—two establishments of the Xundheitswelt that both rent out e-bikes. The assistance from an electric motor can prove helpful right from the start of the route, as the additional loop begins with a steep climb. Here, you’ll want to use the small sprocket. The climb eases up after about 1.8 kilometers. After a short downhill section, the trail turns sharply left toward Nebelstein. The route here is unpaved. A wide, well-maintained forest trail provides a close-to-nature experience until you reach the parking lot at the base of the summit trail to Nebelstein. Vehicles cannot drive up this trail. However, the short walk to the popular Nebelstein Hut is well worth the effort, as the view rewards all summit seekers for the exertions of the climb. Refreshments are available at the Alpine Club hut, which exudes alpine charm and can also be used for overnight stays. The descent is much easier. After about 900 meters, the additional route branches off to the left from the paved road toward Harmannschlag. The first part of the route follows a forest trail, winding through the woods and across small clearings on a gentle descent toward Maißen. Soon, small farmsteads and a chapel come into view, with picturesque vistas toward Lauterbach and Moorbad Harbach appearing time and again. The final stretch of the supplementary route is paved. Downhill riders enjoy a thrilling descent, while more cautious riders keep their brakes gently engaged and take in the scenery. Shortly before the village of Maißen, where the supplementary route joins the main route, you’ll come to a T-intersection. After turning left here, you’ll reach the intersection toward Holzmühle—and with it, the main route—in less than half a kilometer.
