The Fürstenberg family has been managing ponds around Weitra since 1606. The oldest ponds date back to the Middle Ages. Today, there are 17 ponds covering a total area of approximately 40 ha, used for the extensive, species-appropriate production of carp and other edible fish. Operations are conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the “Waldviertler Karpfen” quality label. At the farm store in Weitra, you can purchase whole carp or carp prepared for cooking (e.g., horseshoe-cut, scaled carp fillets) every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. year-round.
